One of my drawing students submit a photo of her pup. I’ve met her a couple times and she’s a big, friendly girl. I thought some soft blush colors would bring out her pink spot on the top of her snout. And who says all shadows are grey. 😉

A horse’s winter coat isn’t the prettiest, shaggy and sometimes even different colors than their steak summer coat. The photo I used for this painting was entered on Instagram and this mare obviously had her fuzzy winter coat. I can’t tell if she’s usually black or dark brown, the mixture of the two brought a warmth to this painting. I might even try it in some future painting.
Her name may be Kitty, but she isn’t a kitty cat. This adventurous pup was pretty fun to paint. The gold hints help give the idea its during golden hour and she’s ending her day of adventure. She actually lives in New Zealand and will be going there along with Delphi.
This is from a photo I took many years ago. My first dog was a red Golden Retriever named Ginger. She was the best dog, from guarding our house, snuggling with the kitties, to accompanying us on family road trips. I think that this is the first time I’ve actually captured her in watercolors, I’m not sure why I haven’t before. 💛
This sweetie, Delphi, lives in New Zealand and her owner submitted the photo I used as reference to #WesternRoseStudios30in30 on Instagram. It’s exciting to know that my art travels around the world.
This little bird met me a couple winters ago in Central Oregon. I think he is a little type of nuthatch, but I do know that he is quite cute.
