Do you believe in magic? Last spring I had a magical time at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival with the Black Pearl Friesian Troupe strutting their stuff in the colorful fields. I used one of my photos as inspiration for this painting. Even though he was originally a Black Friesian, I decided to keep him colorful and lighter with a darker background to help my unicorn pop.

Sometimes you just need to get out of town, literally. Today John, Kona, Coal, and I headed out to (John's) favorite fishing spot along the Breitenbush River. It was a cold day and the sun wasn't yet high in the sky. Needless to day it was a warm hat day, so John's Christmas hat had its maiden voyage (doesn't it look all fuzzy and warm?). It was the first time John had fished the Breitenbush with the winter flow and he was just interested in finding out if the rainbow trout wintered in the summer fishing holes. At times our labs splashed in the water next to John as he casted out his line, but he didn't mind as much as usual because the fish weren't biting.
I’d like to introduce Koda. Right now my weekends are filled with dogs, because I work at a doggie daycare. And Koda is one of the many dogs who come for some social time with other dogs for daycare. I just loved the way she had her legs the other day and snapped a photo of one of the softest dogs I’ve ever pet.
This fluff ball is Archer and he must be quite the character. He’s trying to tell us something, maybe he’s hungry? Or he wants the tuna instead of the dry cat food? Or maybe he’s just trying to tell us how is day has been? Either way, he was fun to paint and I pulled out my masking fluid to keep his whiskers white without the worry of loosing them in his grey fur.
This is Apollo. He’s a Drum Horse Stallion that I’ve met many times and have photographed and painted. I’ve had this particular photo of him that I’ve been dying to paint, but wanted it to be strong, graceful, carefree, and slightly whimsical. This month I just knew I had to paint Apollo as part of my 30 in 30 and that he’d be perfect for my sketchy style development. I really love how this one turned out. If you like it, why don’t you leave a comment and let me know why you like it?
Tonight I decided to do a quick little painting. This little guy took 40 minutes and my goal was to keep it loose and suggestive. The photo I used for reference was one I took at the Pendleton Round Up last September. I loved the action in the photo and decided that it’d be perfect for my 30 in 30 project.
