In 2010 I was working as a horse wrangler in New Mexico at Philmont Scout Ranch. While I was there, one of the local cowboys was working with a two year old stud colt, Pistol. I thought now would be the perfect time to capture this moment in watercolors.

A couple years ago when I was hiking in the Columbia River Gorge, I saw this wolf-dog tied up by a car. Of course I took a photo and I finally decided to paint it. I’m really happy with how it turned out. If you like it, why not leave a comment?  This little kitty might look a lot like another cat that I’ve painted. Actually, this is not the same cat; this is Darcy. The photo I used for reference was submitted on Instagram and she also submitted Kitty and Archer. So Darcy will be joining the others to live in New Zealand.  I wanted to try something different, so I paused a video and then took a screenshot. It was a little blurry, but that was part of my challenge. This colt is Martin and he’s the first Drum Horse born in 2018. Martin is part of the HyTyme herd in Eagle Creek that I like to visit on an occasion.  This little watercolor painting is my first one of the equestrian sport of jumping. Tallulah submitted the photo I used as reference on her Instagram account. Painting so small, you can’t depict all the little details, so this gave me the opportunity to create suggestions.  I thought I’d do something extra special for Valentine’s Day. I took a photo a couple months ago of two Rhodesian Ridgeback pups snuggling and their little bodies made the shape of a heart. 💛  |
