How to Choose Your Photographer

I couldn't have said it better than Michaela of Kayla Hurd Photography, so these are her exact words from a recent Instagram post of hers.

How do you select your photographer?

Price? Style? Personality? Convenience?
It doesn’t matter if it’s a wedding, family photos, boudoir or even headshots — every single one of those factors listed above should be considered and accepted before moving forward.

Price

It’s not a bad thing to be on a budget, and it’s not a bad thing to search for deals but it is a bad thing to book someone solely because of their price and nothing else — it only leads to issues down the road. It’s important to not only stay within your budget but find a photographer whose work you stand behind and love! 💕

Style

The way your photographer edits and shoots is their style — it’s who they are, it’s how they express themselves through their ART. Yes, I said it — art! Would you buy a painting and approach the artist asking them to paint like someone else? Would you buy a painting and paint over the artist’s work yourself? Probably not. So you shouldn’t do that do your photographer! If you don’t love their editing or posing don’t hire them! ✨

Personality

Do you click with your photographer? Do your conversations flow, without trying to think of what to say next? It’s so important to be able to communicate with the person capturing important moments in your life! If there is a photographer whose work you love and they’re in your budget, but you can’t communicate — your entire experience is going to be mediocre or even bad! It’s okay not to click with everyone, that just means they aren’t the right fit for you!
It’s so important to make sure you’re hiring someone for the right reasons — at the end of the day photographers own a business! When we see someone editing/changing our work, it crushes us. When we work with someone and get asked to edit completely differently, it hurts because we were hired editing the way we always have. When we have a miscommunication with a client, there is only hope that it could of been prevented by us! Everything we do, is for you, our clients. Without you we would be nowhere, do nothing, have nothing and all we ask is for you to find that photographer you L O V E, check ALL the boxes and don’t settle for anything less! 🔥
