One of the things I love about living near the Gateway to the Gorge is the easy access to all the hikes. Since the Columbia River has spent eons eroding away the basalt rock to create the never-ending beauty of the Columbia River Gorge is laced with countless waterfalls. It's nearly the start of the weekend, which for me opens up to adventures. One of the hikes I enjoy is heading out towards Bonneville Dam and Wahclella Falls. This particular trail head parking lot is quite small and this hike is popular, so if you want to go on this hike, the earlier you get there for a 2 mile getaway, the better. I love going out to waterfalls, especially to sit and think. The rising mist from the thundering water cascading over a drop, sometimes multiple drops, taking it all in is refreshing and mind opening. Just letting my thoughts drift with the waves is freeing and much needed after a long week at work.

Elizabeth, this is awesome! I so appreciated you sharing the easy hikes for those of us looking for more horizontal hikes, rather than to much vertical. Wow! Thank you for sharing your appreciation of the beauty so close at hand !
