I've been getting back into the swing of painting again and I wanted to share with you what has been painted in my sketchbook! I've had this sketchbook for a while and was always afraid to start something and then this year, I just dove in and haven't look back! I hope you come along to see what I've added in it so far. I have a couple things to say about this sketchbook. I really love the size and the feel of the linen cover. And since this sketchbook was a couple years old before starting it, I noticed that the elastic band holding the sketchbook closed isn't very snug. I've been using some washing tape along the edges to "frame out" my paintings and I really love how clean it looks! I'm happy to say that the paper has minimum rips with the wash tape. Keep in mind that even high quality paper can get ripped when tape is pulled off. You can see for yourself how this sketchbook works with this timelapse I created when I painted my friend's young horse, Juni. YouTube video of the timelapsed painting. As for the paper, it is a cold press texture and isn't as think as the Arches 140 lb cold press that I'm used to, but just playing around in my sketchbook, this 95 lb cold press is perfect for that! There is minimal bleed through the pages, but you can see the dark values from the other side of the page. And how my paint reacts to the paper reminds me of a hot press (but with texture like cold press) and the paint mostly sits on the paper instead of soaking into the paper. I'll be doing a sketchbook tour once I've filled this one and will be sharing about it here on my blog, email newsletter, YouTube, Facebook Group, and Instagram.
